about self-injury
I watch the silver gleam of love
Slide forth from the shadows
To caress my skin with its electrifying touch.
I tremble in anticipation as I wait
For the flowing red beauty.
I want to taste the happiness
Which has so cruelly been denied me.
I loathe the pain I must endure to be blithe,
And yet, it comforts me and I feel needed.
I crave the moment when I can bleed my way to freedom
And escape the harsh realities of this cold world.
I am addicted to the blade which
Relieves me from my quarantined life,
To be forever loved.

Author's Note: I was a self-injurer for years, and during that time I learned alot about myself and the world around me. I have since stopped for personal reasons, however, my view on the subject has not changed. Self-injurers are not people to fear; they are simply people who handle their emotions and their stress differently from the average joe. I urge anyone who is not familiar with the topic or anyone who has relied on heresay to do some research on the subject. While you may not feel like you need to self-injure, you just may find that their reasons are actually things you have felt or experienced.
