Love notes at Lunch

"You’re my Aphrodite"
"Your eyes caress my soul."
In mock earnestness he reads these words–
He thinks he’s on a roll.

But he does't understand
Love to him is but a whim.
And though she plays his little game,
Her affection isn't just for him

As he confesses his love in jest,
An annoyance and a bother,
She listens quietely and content,
her thoughts are solely on another.

But hers is not a spoken love,
but rather something deep inside.
A secret wish kept in her heart,
to have that someone by her side.

Yet know one knows--not even he
with whom her thoughts dwell fequently-
that he's the only one for her
and she's the only one for he.

And she doesn't know that his thoughts too
are on her often every day.
And while they're thinking of each other,
neither one can feel dismay.

And even though this strange young man
reads love notes during lunch to her,
Her heart will never be for him...
true love consists of something more.
