A piece about natural law and life
Protecting life with a gun,
Serving justice with a stick,
Preserving freedom with a prison,
Signifying equality with a badge,
So we can all live by the book.

But, the cover is fading.
The title is long lost.
Pages are torn and stained
And falling from the spine.
The judge is old but not as old as the book.
He can hardly read the failing print.
Still he throws the book with authority
Though never once has the law been broken.

The sun rises and sets just on time.
The rains never fail to fall upon the soil.
And the plants sprout in the spring.
The harvest is only made when the fruit is ripe.

The law is older than words,
Even older than mankind,
There is no life outside of the Law.
