Loving each other and the moment on Valintines Day
Valentines Day, Number 65

It’s Valentines Day, my love, I say,
As we snuggle, cozy before the fire;
Warmly wrapped in the comfort of our peaceful souls,
This cold and icy day.

Together we share the out loud joy our squirrelly squirrels bring
As they munch and crunch and climb and bounce
From tree to tree in the woods outside.

Throngs of hungry, chirping birds settle at our feeders,
Pushing and shoving, greedily picking out their favorite seeds;
Reminding us that we are each the chorus - for the other’s solo.

Look, my love, a group of deer has come to forage in our woods.
Smug, they are, he says, knowing Taffy can’t chase them away,
As she barks and growls from behind our hearth room window.

But I wonder, as we watch the linear pines and starkly nude oaks and maples sway, If we both will live to applaud their spring foliage
Or feel the orgasm of fall’s annual triumph,
when the trees around us strut in blazing color
And whirl and shake off their glorious robes, throwing them to the ground,
Graciously giving the forest soft bedding for a long winter’s nap.

Quit your wondering and enjoy the now, my love, he says,
And all the quiet pleasures between us and just outside our windows,
Given by God, free of charge, in a world where all else has a price.

Oh Valentine, most perfect Valentine, my gift today is you and I am yours.
