Everything seemed different when I looked at night.
Rain's pounding at my window,
Keeping me awake tonight.
My heart is swaying,
Indecision has shown itself bright;
And all I wanted was someone.
All I wanted were arms tight,
But I can't figure it all out,
Because everything's different at night.

I once wanted the stars,
So far and out of reach,
Until someone gave them to me
And sucked my dreams like a leech.
Even then I had a problem.
A problem no one could teach,
Teach to fix or get rid of.
All I could do was not preach.

I grew up and wanted a boy.
I wanted him for so long,
But he never wanted me
So I'm writing this song.
Bringing in hopes he'll hear it,
Yet never bring that girl along;
The girl who was smart,
The girl who was anything but strong.

Months went by until a new boy came
And within weeks I had that boy
But was he the one I wanted?
Or was this all a ploy?
Was it all a huge risk inside?
Was he my mind's new toy?
Would the one I really wanted fade away?
Or was he the one who held my joy?

Oh Rain pitters and Rain patters
And it keeps me awake tonight.
My heart can't stop swaying
Indecision shines so bright
And all I wanted was someone
All I wanted were arms tight
But I'll never figure this all out
Because everything's different at Night.
