A stranger, a deck of cards
Stranger

A stranger came to my door
In one hand
A stack of cards
In the other
A few Dollars

He asked to stay a night
What harm could a night be?
I asked myself

As he sat by the fire
He told me
In the voice of a dreamer,
The words of a poet,
The knowledge of an elder
the plight of that night
Playing poker.

And as he spoke
I felt inclined
To help him in his plight
Just one more night.

Then I played the
Wild Card
And asked him
Where tomorrow
He would go...

And he said
"Home
For here I am
A stranger."

For just an instant
A warmth came into
My heart
But I told the love
To go away.

For he was just...

A stranger.
