This is about a former friend of mine, one I haven't spoken to in three life times.
There’s been something I’ve wanted to say
Something I’ve been harboring within
Words that should have been uttered
Confessions that should be justified

I wronged you all those years ago
I know you never forgave me
I would take it all back if I could
I’ve promised you that a thousand times

Don’t back away
Don’t pull yourself even further
I understand more then you know
I don’t know why I never told you

There are times I still think about you
Times I allow myself to feel that hurt
But I never let those drops fall from my eyes
It’s all just too much

I still have that picture of you and me
I still remember that day it was taken
Just like the day you were taken from me
That day you gave up on me

I recall that look of hate
The eyes that burned into my soul
The eyes that refused to cry out
Your eyes were identical to my own

I can’t be sorry anymore
But I know that I am
Simple as it is
I blame myself for not being able to help you

I know that if I had said the right thing
Hadn’t been so selfish and naïve
You wouldn’t be gone now
Your shell is all that remains of you

You always boasted and claimed
That you were the strongest among us
So tell me now
O great one

Share with me this one thing
If we never speak ever again
It’s a simple question
I’m sure you can handle it

Why did you give up on us
Why did you abandon all hope
Why did you sell out
What was the motive behind it all

Were you in it together
Did you have it all planned out
Where did it begin
When did it end

You’re so far gone now
There’s no use trying any more
You’ve no one to blame but yourself
I did everything I could have and more

You were the Puppet Master
But you were a mere puppet yourself
For that girl you tried to be
And you fell before her

You sold your soul to her
With no disregard for that beautiful woman
Who was waiting for you to grown into her skin
Now you’re a whore to society

It’s my turn to point the figure
The time has come to admit to your crimes
Pay your dues in full
Or you will die in your self-made cell

I want to cry to you
That I’m sorry I can’t help
But I never could
You never let me

You condemned yourself
Time and again
It’s painful to accept
But I have to move on from you

Step up to the line
Take your place in life
Just like you were meant to
Turn the tables in the right direction

Step up to the line
Take your place in life
Just like you were meant to
I beg of you

It’s an empty plea
But I pray it every night
I pray for mercy
I pray for pardon

On your over-ridden ambitions
On your marked wrists
On your broken heart
Because I know
Someone did the same for me
