They've always been first, and you've given your best- but you're always second.
Last night you had the nerve to call me up
Trying so hard to clean up your mess
You said "It's 6:50 now, I'll call back at 7:45.
I wan't to, believe me, I promise."
So I kept my phone by my side
As the hours turned to dust
And when the midnight hour came
Your love turned to lust
Then at three in the morning
She drove by with you in the car
My heart dropped into my stomach
And I tasted how distant we are
You said, "I would have said hi,
If I knew you were there."
But I knew you had seen me,
You just didn't care
Because I'll always come second
Though you've always been first
Of all of my tragedies,
Our love story's definitly worst
If I could turn back these nights
And silence all the rings
I would have never heard your voice
And these tears wouldn't mean a thing
But unfortunately for me
I just don't have the power to regret
How you made life worth living
Something I could never forget
And for those first few weeks
I tried to believe
That things wouldn't be different
That you wouldn't... just leave
Our goodbye lasts forever
But our hello, not a chance
'Cause whenever we're together
You've got a new circumstance
One night could mean everything
The next I'd spend alone
And the blood would run cold
Over the ache in my bones
You said "I'll always have feelings,
You just can't be the one."
How dare you say you love me,
When our ending has surely begun
I said, "I need you right now
But I needed you then.
And I'll always be second,
Nothing... more then a friend."
