A song about a family coping with tragedy
He’s been asleep now for five long years
She’s always bedside, fighting back the tears
Everyday seems to be a living hell
It wasn’t her fault, but she still blames herself
A dark and rainy night many moons ago
A tree had fallen up ahead, how was she to know
As she turned the corner she saw an awful sight
With no time to stop that car hit with all its might
What happened next she’ll remember all her days
He looked her in the eyes, It was the last time he’d say
I love you

How do you explain it all to a baby back home
He won’t be coming back, but Daddy’s not alone
She visits him everyday just in case
The doctor’s gave up hope, but she hasn’t lost faith

Fourteen years old now and it’s his birthday
They go to visit room one twenty-eight
He runs in and holds his Daddy’s hand so tight
Whispers in his ear please don’t give up the fight
The beeping reassures him Daddy’s still there
He can’t play games with him, but the boy doesn’t care
Sits down by his side, takes out his homework
Looks up at his Mom with the cutest little smirk
Don’t worry, Dad said he’ll be alright
He visited me in my bed, late last night
Said to take care of you, and always try my best
Before he left, he had one request
Always keep him close to your heart
He may not be around, but you’ll never be apart

How do you explain it all to a baby back home
He won’t be coming back, now your Daddy’s gone
Now he visits her everyday just in case
She smiles every time, she thinks he can see her face
