A poem for our drumline instructor for an awesome season.
We’re all unique, but we play the same.
We want to soar, that’s why we came.
You give us the chance to be who we are,
To show us the sky isn’t really that far.
You give us the beat, and we play along.
We’re all different parts of same song.
We’re your little family of friends,
And we’ll defend each other to the end.
While it’s true that we decide to fight,
We’re just a dysfunctional family, right?
Because we together learn to soar,
And next year we’ll be back for more.
We’ll keep coming back for our piece of heart,
Because that love is our favorite part.
We’ll always come back to stand by you,
Because that’s what families do.
You showed us how to spread our wings.
You taught us the song we sing.
This time we’ll show you what we learned,
Cause guess what? It’s your turn!
Since you taught us to touch the sky,
We want to show you why we fly.
So keep your head up and hold on tight,
Cause we aren’t going down without a fight.
For we all stand up tall,
With us you’ll never fall.
Because we’d give it all away,
To stand by your side today.
At the end, we want you in tears,
Show you why we want to be here.
We want you to be the first to see.
We broke the chains, we’re flying free.
Now we’ll fly forever more.
All because you taught us how to soar.
