it's a breif story told about a slave and her child escaping to freedom
[first scene]
mae june and her son is running away from their master's plantation
it was a clear night and the stars was shinning bright
it was as if the stars knew mae june was making her escape to freedom
while mae june and her son anthony were running
she instantly remembered her grand father telling the story of how her auntie sarah
tried to escape and how she was caught and killed
he said they beat her so bad when they found her she didn't have a face
all the while mae june was running she were saying to her self -cant get caught
cant go back i done came to far
i won't go back-i die first
you hear me son we die be fo we go back

comm'on child dey's commin
we cant git caught
keep ya head down fo someone see us
we almost dere now it wont be to long
[anthony]
mama are we dere yet
my foot hurt iam tied
[mayjune]
baby we cant stop now if we do dey gon git us
we be dere soon
we stop in a li'll while o.k
lets rest here
here eat dis
[anthony]
mama you tied too [and mayjune replied]
yes baby iam tied but not the kinda tied you thankin bout
iam tied of how dey treat us
iam tied of scrubbin floors and cooking fo dem der white folks
who dont thank nothin of me or you
tied of waitin on thangs to git betta
knowin dat it ant unless we make it betta
comm'on we gottah go we almost dere[as mayjune sang the rest of her way to freedom there she was free at last
