A child's bedtime poem
Dusk

The sun is sinking,
Hanging by a thread.
Stars will soon be winking
Time children got to bed.

Dusk is hanging
Over the low green hills.
And mother says if we listen,
We will hear the whippoorwills.

The air is filled with,
Timeless stories of old.
And only the nightriders
Will go traveling so bold.

As I climb into bed,
I hear the night owl call.
Pull covers over my head,
For I am a child small.

There is morning to come,
And with it a new day.
So whisper you old oak trees,
Goodnight to all I say.
