Something set the little girl apart from others......
The Invisible Mark

A child of six and standing stiff,
And on her face a nervous smile;
At school for games she was chosen fifth
They thought she had no class or style.

Her friends so few in school-bound years,
They'd turn away when she walked their way;
How often she cried and shed sad tears
As their indifference continued day by day.

In her teenage years it stayed the same,
But added now was thoughtless teasing;
Their cruel taunts they considered a game
Her life to her was not very pleasing.

Something in her had set her apart,
An invisible mark that branded her life;
Colored her emotions but not her heart
She still needed friends and to be a wife.

Later in life she met a kind man,
Who offered her things she dearly craved;
She was pleased when he asked her for her hand
Her devotion and love she then freely gave.

She felt so fulfilled when blessed with their child,
The joy of her life as she grew in years;
The girl was sweet and shy, but rarely smiled
As the mother remembered, she shed new tears.

The child seemed to have the invisible mark too,
No friends did she have or others to care;
Her stiff shy ways and words so few
Made her every day life so hard to bear.
