Sometimes a best friend can be someone who we gave a chance at life......
Lexi’s Song
The Dog Pound Blues

I’m sitting in my jail cell
On this hard old concrete floor
With nothing between this cold slab, and my old aching bones
I’m waiting for a kind soul
To come and take me home
Someone who will love me and keep me warm…….

It’s been about a week now, since they put me in this cell
Surrounded by other canine breeds, who share my lonesome tale
So many other sad songs, keep me awake at night
And with the break of morning
Their whimpers fade into the light……………

I’m not sure how I got here, was it because I ran away?
Did my owner drop me off here cause with them I could not stay?
All’s I know is that I have
A lot of love left to give
So someone please adopt me,
I have a lot of life to live……………

Her face was like an angel as she knelt down by my cell
“Would you like to be mine?” Were the sweet words that she asked
I shook my tail and barked, and ran around my overcrowded cell
But as they led me out to freedom, I had one final turn around

I looked back at my friends, who still waited in their cells
So many of them were just like me, with similar doggy tales
And just like me I know, they have a lot of love to give
So someone please adopt my friends, so that they have a chance to live……………….
