an attempt to convince a lover of her sincerity
I cannot begin to fathom the foundation for your affections
That your hand should be to heal while I am numb from cold rejection

I am imperfect as a canvas of Vasari, yet still to finish
Do not you see me as the painter does, while his liking doth diminish?

Though you remain a gallant, a knight to dry my eyes from tears
In your heart I sense and see an ocean fraught with fears

And might I choose to sway your heart, for it is true I love you strong
I should whisper in your ear that I would love you all the long

Despite our many differences, for of those your fear is transparent
I tell you true that I care for you, and is not this increasing apparent?

That your lips should entice me to kiss you, though you are not here
That your words should keep me waiting, despite my qualms and fears

That your doubts of you make you the sweeter, for of myself I feel the same
That your passion and faith should make me love you the more, and my admiration I think should be plain

Think you lies from my tongue, please believe I speak true
When I tell you so pure my heart's yearning
And when I say it is you and only that which I wish
Please don't doubt, for that leaves my eyes burning

If my words don't suffice, please then take my heart
And in earnest I beg your persistence
For I could not abide it should you choose to part
And believe we can conquer this distance...
