The sorrow and confusion of an unwanted marital break-up
This was also written in response to a prompt, although the only thing I can remember is that it was supposed to be song lyrics. Again, I was trying a format that I haven't tried before and it needs a lot of improvement - any suggestions, much appreciated.

“No man is an island”
I think that’s what they said,
But that’s not how it feels,
Alone, here in my head.
For I can feel the waves lapping;
Lapping at my sides,
And I can feel the worms burrowing
Into my life.

Because the only one who could reach me
Turned out to be you
And now you say you’ve “set me free”.
So here I am, deserted,
Stranded and alone,
On an island that’s really just me.

“Till death do us part”
I think that’s what they said,
But that’s not how it feels,
Alone, here in my head.
For I can hear the lawyers tearing
Shreds out of my life,
And I can hear the judge saying
That you’ve stopped being my wife.

“Kids bond folk together”
I think that’s what they said,
But that’s not how it feels,
Alone, here in my head.
For I can see them drifting
Far apart from me,
And I can see my family crumble
As I never thought could be.

But the only one who can reach me
Has turned out to be you
And now you say you’ve “set me free”.
So here I am deserted,
Stranded and alone,
On an island that’s really just me.
