A poem dedicated to Song.... ca. Spring 2007
She Flings Javelins

We meet upon the battlefield
As one year fades into the next
I see her for but a moment:
The bright sunshine on her face
Shields up! Shields up!
She flings her words like javelins
With deft tongue and steady arm
Each deadly point strikes its mark
My armor rattles as I stumble
Dirty blood comes gushing forth!
Retreat! Retreat!
She scales a wall of black stone
An ancient tower tumbles down
I see her but for a moment:
She emerges from a cloud of dust
Her beauty is the flaming sword of Gabriel!
Her purity is the golden shield of Achilles!
Her intellect is the loaded quiver of Apollo!
And her eyes....
And her eyes....
I surrender
