A love poem with a twist...
COMEUPPANCE

My step is light
And my face bright
There’s a haze around
In a spell I’m bound
Time hasn’t dented
Nor emotion vented
A bliss decades old
Returns equally bold
In the mouth a taste
In the brain a feeling
All theories turn waste
And send the pulse reeling
Just a chance meeting
Gets the pride fleeting
So there is true love
Much like a flying dove
It varies its flight
But keeps flying alright
Then it crashes into a wall
Breaks its neck and all
Even as I was penning
Lines she would soon see
Comes the phone ring
That gives the jolt to me
I’m happy, she says, I saw you
But now I know what to do
Never to meet you again
Come gale, snow or rain
Because much is at stake
It’s all a big mistake
God, man, woman, child
All are against us two
Not in our dreams wild
Should we ever be untrue
Hence my simple question
(Let me ease my congestion)
Just to see each other
Would be such a huge bother?
You I barely, rarely touch
Only keep talking much
Yes I indeed stare
With my two eyes bare
Then I look far away
When you glance my way
That’s a crime I agree
To be on a staring spree
So punish me with déjà vu
My only issue against you
You always take me to a high
Then swat me like a fly
I don’t even get a chance
To speak or a sideways glance
It just ends like a b-grade flick
Each time with a telephone click.
