About my little brother, Angelo who is mentally disabled..I love him so dearly!
Through the eyes of a small boy

When I look at him—
I do not see the fact that he is different—
Different from you and I.
I do not see that he may not have the ability—
The ability to do what you and I can do.
I see someone with wisdom—
Wisdom to a path of love—
Wisdom to give the world hope and faith—
Wisdom to teach us a very important lesson

He is not someone who takes life for granted
His life is as simple as day
He does not take from others
He does not hurt others
He simply just does not hate
He does not expect your love in return
But do know, he will always love you
He will love as you are, with no strings attached

He may not understand the complexities of life
He may not have a chance to read or write
He may not have the chance to fall in love
To go out in this world looking for a new start
Being able to sit under the stars and wonder what is out there
He may not be able to communicate his true feelings
Oh but I tell you he can show you
But only, through his eyes

Sadly, this society has labeled him
Giving him ungodly names
Names of ignorance
Names of meanness and cruelty
They do not know who he is
But I tell you—do not dear label him
Do not even think that he is…
Do not think that his life is worthless
Do not think that he does not have a chance
A chance in this life to be free

But I tell you this, Loud and Clear
His mind is beautiful
He has a heart of gold
He is the essence of a pure soul
He is a saint in my eyes
He has the ability to see beyond the pain and sorrow
He feels what we can only dream of
He shows us the true meaning of life

Even though he is the way he is
He is one of the few who will never experience the pain
Experiencing the cruelties of this world
He will never know what death truly is
He will never know how the world views him
But he will know how I feel about him
He will know that he is not alone in this world
He will know that he is safe
As long as he has me as his brother
