A sad little tale that's relived every day
I wonder who that fool can be
Keeps knocking on my door
I part my drapes enough to see
I’m sure I aint seen him before
I yell “G’wan! I’ll call the cops!
Y’know, there oughta be a law!”
But he don’t hear and still he knocks
I wonder who he’s looking for?

Aint he got nothin’ else to do
‘Cept bangin’ on folks doors like that?
Well, I’ll show him a thing or two
If he don’t haul his ass and scat!
If Gloria was still around
She’d see him off in seconds flat!
I palm my ears to dull that sound
But still I hear that RATATAT

Y’know, I went and fought a war
So I could live my whole life free
Now this asshole’s bangin’ at my door
An’ he aint gonna let me be
Well, he can hammer there all day
I’ll just make myself some tea
“Hey Dad!” he shouts “Are you OK?”
What’s that he said?? “C’mon, Dad! It’s me!”

Well now, I only got one kid. That’s Jim!
An’ I aint seen him in quite a while
One thing’s for certain that aint him
My Jim’s...... Hold on! Is he still a child?
No. Wait! Ah! So much I just forget...
I opened up the door, he smiled
“Here, Dad. I got your cigarettes.
They didn’t have extra strength, just mild”
