A relatively short rant
I don’t care.
I don’t care that I am unqualified to do what I do.
I don’t care.
I don’t care that if I had any other job, any boss with half a brain would have fired me.
but I’m the boss, I'm the decider.
I don’t care.

I don’t think.
I don’t think that other leaders who have decades of experience over me,
who have seen generations come and go,
who have the wisdom of a thousand sun rises and sets,
who have led countries into war, or rightly decided not to,
I don’t think they could have made a better decision then I,
a C- Yale student who only got in
Only because daddy’s name is in the paper.
I don’t think.

I don’t try.
I don’t try to wear the title of “Murderer”
after wearing “Rescuer” for so long,
though it suites me well.
IDon’t try to see it through their eyes.
I don’t try

I don’t see.
I don’t see the suffering.
I don’t hear.
I don’t hear the mother’s cry
“Not my baby!
He was too young to fight!
He was too young to die!”
He was too young
I don’t care

I don’t feel.
Don’t feel the pain.
Don’t feel the deep pool of blood remembered
that exists in so many hearts.
Don’t hear the shouts of people
who can barely remember a time
when there was peace in their land,
Don hear them emerging
from a country I destroyed.
Don’t see the loss of life and hope
from atop my golden throne.

I chose to look away.
I chose to suppress those feeling.
I chose to ignore it all when I said
“MISSION ACCOMPLISHED”

Mission accomplished?
Go tell that to the refugees
booted out of their homes
by our path of destruction.
Whisper it in the ear of a crying mother
who lost her child before he was ready to go,
before SHE was ready to let him go.
Scream it from the bunkers and barracks
where your soldiers lie
bloody and dead
Afraid for their lives
Afraid that they wouldn’t make it home
after YOU put them there.

Shout it from atop a minaret,
overlooking a blood-spilled battlefield
Scorched with the souls of the lifeless.
Burned with the dreams of the lost.
Blackened by the memory of the forgotten.

Shout it so that all can hear you
The Living and the Dead
The Lost and the Found
The Tired and the Afraid

“MISSION ACCOMPLISHED”
