A sestina!
My Professor’s Question

I was headed home the other day,
Walking home from my first English class
Thinking on what my professor had said.
I kept turning over the idea in my mind,
Taking something the man said seriously.
It might have been the fact that he had cursed.

Normally I don’t mind when people swear
But he made me regret going that day
Cause that day I had to take him seriously
It just kept troubling my mind.
It was just something that he had said.

“Answer something for me class, seriously,
Answer this, why is it important to say…”
He continued and captivated the class.
Ending with a single loud expletive.
It stuck with the class for the rest of the day,
We worked his question over in our minds.

It didn’t matter to him if we minded,
That we might not take him seriously,
The syllabus didn’t matter that day.
He has never used the word “Fuck.”
To him, if you swear, you have no class.

In addressing everyone in my class
In that way he made it stick in our minds.
Normally if you use swear words
People won’t take you as seriously,
But no one planned on saying
Anything to our professor that day,

Because, he had simply shut down our class
By asking why it’s important to say what’s on you mind.
Ending with “...seriously, you think the world gives a fuck?”
