Feelings I felt on top of Wright Peak in the Adirondacks. Great hike.
The fog rushes over from the opposing mountain,
As a wave washes up along a beach.
Yet instead of covering, it surrounds.
The haze takes the summit to a new height,
You now feel that you are in the heavens, above all else.
And the wind is like it's never felt before;
So powerful, so tranquil, so arrogant, so loving.
As if it's yelling for me to leave, yet showing off its might and beauty.
The strap of my camera is flying horizontally backwards,
As I put the camera to my eye to try and capture the intensity of the moment.
It can't be done, no camera can capture feeling.
No picture, no painting, no artistic rendering can compare,
Even the power of words proves to be weak in comparison with the might of the mountaintop.
You feel rejected, as if the wind is the mountain telling you to go,
But as you stand to face it, the mountain acknowledges your strength,
It reveals slowly to you its treasured, secret beauty.
It creates a memory for you that can never slip your mind.
Feelings of protection as you climb back down,
Now you share an eternal bond.
By just being there, you have forever changed the landscape,
You left part of you on the mountain,
And that heavenly mountain left part of itself in you, in your memory,
Forever sharing with you its beauty, its glory, its grace; and its power.
