how it felt to stand on a rooftop, given that I am scared of heights
Rooftop moment

Today I stood on top of the world
And didn't feel it move.
The danger, how high I was,
was freshness like the wind.
The railing I looked through
flashed bright against the grass
and everything seemed clean.

I wanted to shout, I wanted to stand on the railing
so far above it all.
I wanted the unwatched silence to walk around with me.
I wanted the open freedom of the sky indoors,
I wanted it to rain on me, to be lashed by the rain.
I tasted the fear of falling,
and walking back inside to the dark, breath-held
and closed-window stillness
was not unbearable.
