entry for a contest
The skies grew dark early in the day
It seemed the end was on its way
Mankind was the one that started this war
But Mother Nature would even the score.

She covered the land with a cloud of ash
Which proved more cumbersome than a mountain of trash
Tons and tons of stuff no one could breathe
And no place on earth the ash to receive.

You ask why Mother Nature would do such a thing?
Why She would cover the first buds of spring?
We polute Her fresh water so no one can drink
We make so much noise She can't possibly think.

We have never once thought of how She must feel
When She spends her time making beauty so real
And we spend our time covering it with concrete
To build giant buildings at which we can meet.

Did we ever once wonder if Mother Nature would mind
If we polute Her domain with things of all kind?
So she decided She would help us a little
And She started to rumble, down deep in Her middle.

And when She finally blew her top
She sent the ash that covered your crop
It mattered not whether it was wheat or melons
Mother Nature's revenge was called Mount Saint Helen's.
