A light hearted memory!

The day is hot.
Little rainbows rise up
From the mist
Of the sprinkler.

Young children
Playing quietly in the yard
Tentatively, they run towards the water
Barely contacting, then retreating.

A middle-aged woman
Appears barefoot from the house
In her cropped pants, hands on hips,
She watches the children.

She leaves her porch
Moving purposely, towards the hose
As if to change locations,
She kinks the hose and picks it up.

The children watch, mesmerized,
As the woman unscrews the sprinkler
Unkinks the hose…
And sprays them!

Their faces register shocked surprise,
An instant of uncertainty, consideration of tears…
The confusion lifts, faces turn into smiles
Squeals of laughter resound!

The quiet of this hot afternoon
Magnificently transformed
In this moment, by this woman,
Their Grandma, my Mom!
