A simply beautifully written poem.
A Dozen Roses

He gave me one kiss to start my morning
As I fumbled creamed coffee sugared twice
He mumbled three small words into the covers
As I delivered four small words of even price
Five steps took me out of the sunny bedroom
It's been six days since I slept within his arms
I waited for him that day for seven hours
And my heart still feels the weight of lonely harm
But I'm off to put in my eight as is accustomed
The clock ticks ever closer to sturdy nine
Ten month's we've been apart acting together
And I worry what may creep through secret vine
I wonder if he loves me or loves another
For he appears past eleventh hour every night
And I dare not say I miss him and act a flutter
For I fear my weakness would spark a useless fight
And just as I thought I lost his devotion
And had cried the whole way back from daily chore
I found upon the table tender declaration
A lovely letter before a dozen roses
Not one less or one more
