This is a poem about someone inside looking out.
Beyond the Glass Door

Each day I rise, and wander to
The kitchen where my coffee brews;
I pour a mug, a cup's too small,
to rid me of my pillow's call.

I walk into my office where
computers, desks and chairs reside.
I glance outside the sliding doors
of glass and yet, I stay inside.

Beyond the door of glass I see
an Egret boldly watching me.
The worms he finds a healthy treat;
as kitty sits upon my feet.

A duck's flown in from somewhere North
and lands upon our tiki torch.
He flutters to a palm tree frond
then settles in our backyard pond.

My office off the kitchen door
has three walls solid, one of glass.
A portal onto nature's lore,
these doors who beacon me to pass.

Instead I sit and look upon
the keyboard down beneath my hands.
I turn to see what lies beyond
the glass that shows me lush green lands

I drink my coffee, check my mail;
the bluebird sings to no avail.
I turn to look, the Sun's alive!
And still I will not go outside.

Lizards streak upon the glass,
the kittens leap, and ask, "Alas"
"Why can't we run and play outside
"Why must we always stay inside?"

I sit within my office where
computers, desks and chairs reside.
I glance outside the sliding doors
of glass and still, I stay inside.

Trees so tall, their shadows cast
Upon the pool a longing glance.
The evening falls, the breeze is soft
When nature called, I missed my chance.
