A non-rhyming poem about friendship
Silence save for a ticking clock,
The whisper of wind in an empty room,
The faint haze of a dim lamp,
Silence only an empty house can give.

We are spirits in earthly bodies
Surviving, living, loving
Pulled by necessities and desires.

A safe haven, a warm place to rest
Enought wealth to get by.
Love and laughter, a childish glee
That's all we need.

But at times we spirits encounter others
Ones who share our lives, our loves, our souls
We are connected however briefly by those fragile bonds.

Yet on occasion, something tugs those bonds, straining them
Stretching until we fear they will shatter and destroy the connection.

But despite the pull, despite the bonds stretched thin,
They do not break.

Loss can mean many things--the loss of light means darkness,
The loss of a parent, a hazy memory.
But friendship is not broken, it can span the distance around the world--
Or just across a border.

There is no loss here, only the strengthening of bonds,
So that the ties that binds friends' hearts together will never break.

We are spirits in earthly bodies held close by friendship.
