Contest entry.
New job, new city and a brand new car. A brand new car with a brand new high tech GPS. I’m a traveling salesman and being new to the region my boss thought it was essential to have a GPS installed in my company car. It was a really advanced voice controlled GPS.

So in the morning of my first day in the field I got handed a list of 5 addresses to the clients I was to visit that day. Along with the list I also got a manual to the GPS that weighed about as much as the car. How advanced could it really be?

I went down to my car, tossed the manual on to the backseat and pushed the on-button on the GPS.

- Welcome to Madmax VC GPS. Please state to which city you would like to travel today, the GPS announced

I was only going around in the city so I responded,

- New York

- Your destination today is Newark. Is that correct?

- No

- Please state to which city you would like to travel today

- New York, I really annunciated this time

- You destination today is Newark. Is that correct?

- No

- Please state to which city you would like to travel today

- New York

- Your destination today is Newark. Is that correct?

- NO!

- Please state to which city you would like to travel today

- New York, I snapped at the GPS

- Your destination today is New Orleans. Is that correct?

Now I lost it completely. I yelled obscenities at the GPS. I started my cursing with a no, so while I yelled the computer once again repeated,

- Please state to which city you would like to travel today

It picked up something it recognized in the middle of my ramblings because just when I shut up the computer announced in its monotoned voice,

- Your destination today is China. Is that correct?

- No. You stupid machine. I can’t believe my boss actually thought you would SAVE me time. Can’t you just understand that I want to stay in NEW YORK?

- Your destination today is New York. Is that correct?

- YES!!!

- You have arrived at your destination. Welcome to New York.

I sighed and reached back for the manual. I felt the weight in my hands for a few second before smashing it full force into the GPS.

- Please make a U-turn. Please make a U-turn. Please make a U-turn. Please make a U-turn. Please make a U-turn. Please make a U-turn. Please make a U-turn. Please make a U-turn. Please make a U-turn.
