This poem looks at the many faces of fall.
The air blows cold
and leaves turn gold
red and brown and yellow
The sun slips away
The sky is sliver gray
It's hidden behind the clouds today
Little pumpkin faces glow
The living are cold
And the dead come out to play
The trees are bare
Tonight the moonlight is stale
A fall pixie sings her sweet lullaby
To hush the world goodnight
leaves rustle
in the gentle breeze
and the fire embers glow
From a rusty old iron wood stove
as the smell of apple cider
Lingers through the air
Gravestones in the field
at the edge of town
turn to a cold dark gray
the dead are lonely
no more visitors til Spring
and the nights grow cold and colder still
as they watch through the frosted windows
at the people who gather for a thanksgiving feast
a glowing house in the dark horizon
Surrounded by snow and bare oak trees
the autumn pixie sings her sweet lullaby
To hush the world goodnight...

Goodnight my children
its time to sleep
spring is gone and summer has past
the cold harsh season of death is nigh
so sleep my children
and dream...
Dream of the sunlight glistening
and crystal streams flowing
dream of the sweet scent of roses red
and dream of a sky filled with golden hues
sleep through the cold season
and wake in the warmth of the rising sun
sleep my children... Sleep...
