A prompted poem about how to find my lover if I couldn't see and she couldn't speak.
Here I am without sight
There is nothing that I can see
The world is dark as the darkest night
But I'll still know you, I guarantee
I can walk along and feel the hands
Of every girl on earth
But here now, only five girls stand
To me, only one is of any worth
And as I hold the first hands in mine
I know it is not you
For this hand is not smooth and fine
And does not give me a feeling of life anew
So I move on to the next
And take her hand as well
But her touch has no effect
Her skin has no spell
And I move on down the line
Taking a pair of hands again
But I know this girl is not mine
For her cold hands have no love within
When I get to number four
I know instantly that it is you
And as we walk toward the door
They ask me how I knew
I say:
"You can't disguise true love
With a simple blindfold of cloth
For there is a feeling that reminds me of
The way a light draws in a moth
I could feel the love in her heart
Rushing into mine
There's a certain little spark that starts
And burns brighter than sunshine
I could tell that she loved me too
Unlike all of the rest
I know that this love is true
And love is how I passed this test."
And I look to her and say:
"Here I am with perfect sight
There is nothing that I can't see
But the world is still as dark as night
Without you beside me."
