Narcissist

Narcissism is a quality we all possess,
An unavoidable human characteristic.
No matter how hard one tries,
You,
We,
Will always be narcissists.

We try to be selfless,
We try to be kind.
We try to help each other through the bad,
We try to be there in the good.
We try to put others above us.

But no matter how hard we try,
Trying is all we do.
It is typical human nature.
No matter how selfless we talk or act,
We think of ourselves before others.

We offer our friends the last piece of cake,
When really we want it for ourselves.

We buy our loved ones gifts for Christmas,
Expecting them to match the price.

We put ourselves in danger for others,
When really we expect them to save us.

We take the blame for something we do,
Hoping others will confess.

Narcissism is something we cannot escape.
It's a shadow that hovers over us all.
Selfishness follows us wherever we go,
It haunts us.
It's a quality we all possess.

We can't help but thinking our lives are more important.
We can't stop ourselves from telling the "better story".
We can't help but give ourselves the bigger half.
We can't help but push to be first in line.
We can't help but put ourselves first.

Narcissism is an unavoidable human characteristic.
It's something you cannot evade.
You many listen to others and try to put them first,
But in the back of your mind you will always think
Of me, myself and I.
