A somewhat confusing story of two opposite emotions.
Sorrow and Glee went out one day
In Metaphor World, hoping to play
And as they skipped, hand in hand
They talked of affairs in “The Real Land”

“Oh Glee!” Cried Sorrow. “It’s so sad!”
“People in the world are so bad,”
“They take, and kill, and never care,”
“It’s something I can hardly bare!”

“Silly Girl,” Laughed Glee. “People are good!”
“They do the things that people should,”
“Like hope and dream and love and trust,”
“And care more than the rest of us!”

Sorrow replies “Oh, the lies!”
“You must be blind to not realize,”
“All their mistrust and all their despair,”
“Hangs like smoke infecting the air!”

“This can not be!” Spoke Glee, happily
“Surely it is you that cannot see,”
“The joy that lives within their hearts”
“Is there from death to when life starts!”

“It’s impossible to ignore,”
“The happiness that people implore!”
This said Glee with sure candor
“There is no room to hate or censure!”

“You must understand, this I demand!”
Sorrow inveighed to her friend and
Tried to make him comprehend
The sickly sadness within “Real Land”

“The truth and facts you always spurn!”
Sorrow voiced concern “Why can’t you learn?”
“Misery exists! You must see it!”
Glee (angry): “Why must you plea it?”

“Who would want anguish or sadness?”
“Who wishes for pure unhappiness?”
“These fictional things can’t be real.”
“For they are things no one wants to feel!”

Sorrow swallowed then spoke again
“But there is splendor in such pain.”
“For from it swells humanities’”
“Beautiful entireties!”

“Though I mourn for their dismal ways,”
Though their lives are of despondent days,”
Those of woe will always support,”
“Those of distress’ broken heart.”

“Sadness unites with common ground,”
“Without it unity can’t be found.”
“So this ‘fiction’ must be there,”
“For what’s a world without despair?”

“Without you say? Sorrow, don’t try,”
“To preach what is so plain a lie,”
“You claim to see entireness?”
“What you witness is happiness!”

“Unity of bliss not dismalness,”
“Look closer so you won’t miss this,”
“Remove your head out from the clouds,”
“And look past those false forlorn shrouds.”

“See the world from a better view!”

“Why view lies in lieu of what’s true?”

“Accept contentment as what is right!”

“Accept that I will win this fight!”

“Real Land is bad!”
“Real Land is good!”
“They hurt and killed!"
“They helped all they could!”

“How can you help when nothing needs heal?”

“No one would help if sad’s all they feel!”

Sorrow and Glee argued that day
Caught in fight, forgetting to play
Neither of them could understand
The other’s opinion of “Real Land”
But…
At a late sun-setting hour
Each’s argument had grown sour
This quarrel being often relived
And both friends will always forgive

“Oh, this battle ‘tween virtue and sin”
Says Glee, simply “I can not win.”
“Oh but you have” This Sorrow told
“I’d never win, I’m not that bold!”

Though the other, neither could see
Joy in Sorrow, or woe in Glee
Both let their friend claim victory
For both are forgotten easily

When sad, bliss seems not to exist
But it’s there, and should not be missed
For good was in bad all along
Shining sure steady and strong

For though each denies existence-ness
With determined stubbornness
Without one, the other cannot be
For what is sorrow without glee?

They skipped away merrily, hand in hand
These conflicting feelings, feeling so grand
Sorrow and Glee- the arguing halves
That humans handle within ourselves.
