Stand up

“Stand up for right.”
My father would say,
Never telling me,
How much I would pay.

“Stand up for right!”
My best friend would scream,
Not explaining the fact,
She would not stand by me.

“Stand up for right!”
The preacher proudly stated,
Giving little guidance,
On the evils the world created.

“Stand up for right.”
I thought sitting alone,
Forging the ‘right’ path,
Leaning on no one.

Walking through the world,
Wounded, here and there,
“Stand up for right”,
Does anyone truly care?
