A poem about being lost in a world where so much exists, but you don't have your roots.
I hear the drums upon the wind,
their rhythm carries my thoughts.

Away, back through time, to another place,
another place and present where I have been before.
A dry breeze blows through my hair,
the smell of sage penetrates my soul.
Completeness.
Internal, eternal peace.
Serenity and calmness encompassing.
My spirit moving to the beat of the drum,
the pulses echo through my entire being,
my heartbeats fall into cadence with the heart of Mother Earth.
I
n this place and time, I was where I belonged,
in tune with myself and my ancestors.
This was before I left, before I turned away.
I feel the sun upon my skin, pleasant,
then burning, merciless burning.
I open my eyes to be blinded by
white, unending, invading white.
I close my eyes again and surrender to the cool darkness.
It was only a memory,
a bit of water in this scorched land,
Life where Death reigns with an iron rod.

I hear the drums upon the wind,
their rhythm carries my life away.
