The wild horses are resting
In deathly repose
Scattered about the clearing
Colts fillies and foals

From over the tree line
Choppers had come
Spraying death from sharpshooters
Herding them to circle
Into the bulls eye of death

Deemed feral equated with rabbits
Foxes cats and dogs
Other vermin and noxious weeds
To be eradicated exterminated
Dispatched to their maker

Not seen as noble or worthy
Of respect or friendship
Or remembered for their work
Chasing cattle building country
In the days of shared struggle

Now without compassion
The family lies
Under the gum trees
Disturbed only by the hikers
Who happened that way
