A poem about my frustrations with the status quo.
Others

The masses blindly chase
their predetermined choices.
Straining to keep pace,
they
scream, but they are voiceless.

Others have already spoken
every word they'll say;
Burned out, beat down, and broken,
they
understand no other way.

Forever conscious of others thoughts
and theories of right and wrong;
forever believing what others taught,
they
somberly trek along.

In an unrestrained surrounding,
they see but black and white;
with others’ words resounding,
they
wallow in their spite.

Over time, perceptions shifted
‘til they became unrecognized;
formerly, diverse and gifted,
they’re
now encompassed by the lies.

The bitter, tamed, and bleak
are all too common today.
They scorn us for being unique;
we
merely chose another way.

The humbled, avid, and meek;
these are my true brothers.
Let them say we’re weak;
we’re
resilient in defying the others.
