wrote 12/31/07 on way back on a trip from LaCrosse Wisconsin, rough copy
Fog blankets the bluffs with a haunting mist
Flocking each branch with its icy kiss
Drifts interrupted only by prints long since gone
Desolate and alone there is no louder quiet; standing at the edge looking down
The chaotic beauty of churning waters masked beneath the blanketing white
The ground seems to glow even in the darkest of the night
Wind picking up enough snow to covering where you have been; You have no past
Look out and face the future that opens to you
The air so clear and cold the scent of pine almost stings while it purifies you soul
At last you find peace
