Mental illnesses have lured many to the verge of death
So you laugh in the face of danger
Tempt the fates with a dimpled grin
Maneuver through the mislead laughter
And dance with the blade pointing in?

An expert at escaping trouble,
You sagacious young fool,
Balancing confidently across the threshold
In your self-centered high,
The ominous beat of your heart echoes slower
While frivolously flaunting your facade
Dare you taunt Death with his readied scythe?
Those hands turn to ice
Your vision fades away
Your body beckons for release
As the world becomes grey.

But your lips just curl
into a contented smile,
Sure you'll maintain,
If only for awhile.

Lurking so near another deluded child
The Reaper watches with clenched teeth
Try as he might, he cannot ignore
As you venture past to tempt once more.
What torment it must be to witness his progeny's pain,
A mirror image of his ghastly form,
Till he embraces with a certain pity
While you engross in your sickly game
Mistaken for infallibility

But your lips just curl
Into a contented smile,
Sure you'll maintain,
If only for awhile.
