This is my first poem. I wrote if for a creative writing class.
To War and Back...

They jump on the plane
And move to the rear
As their loved ones huddle
Knowing sadness and fear

For these troops are embarking
On a journey unknown
And leave mothers and children
To fend for their own

They are headed to danger
With a future untold
All a United States Ranger
The brave and the bold

They all joined up freely
To be shaped like a mold
Then were formed from the pit
By instructors who told

That a Ranger is brave
And never shrinks from a fight
The enemy will flee
When he sees their great might

No army in history
Has ever fielded such power
Who would die for their country
And never would cower

They debark from the plane
In a land not their own
To bring freedom and futures
To people unknown

They care not who they are
Only that their in need
Of brave strangers
Who came to perform a good deed

So without a parade
The soldiers do march
Into battles not theirs
But which they will parch

No soldier in history
Has ever given so much
For people they never before
Saw or could touch

When the tour is over
They get back on the plane
With American flags
That cover the slain

For all wars in history
The stories the same
The brave and the bold
Don't go home as they came
