A poem that reveals a little (or a lot) about me.
The Real Me

When you look into my eyes,
Tell me what do you see,
Someone calm and in control,
But that's not the real me.

The real me hides behind a mask,
Hiding the pain and anguish I feel,
Pretending it's not there,
Pretending it's not real.

I feel so small and insignificant,
Afraid to show my weakness,
I shun people's attempts to get to know me,
Fearing they'll like me less.

Deep inside,
I'm lost in chaos and despair,
I can't show this to everyone,
The truth is they don't care.

So I hide away from the world,
Keep myself from view,
I don't let anyone know "me",
No-one that is, but you.

With you it is different,
I don't have to pretend,
I feel safe revealing myself,
To you, my special friend.

So thank you for being there,
Even when I was out of whack,
I just hope that one day,
I'll be able to pay you back.
