Poetry of disillusionment and bitterness
I swiftly came upon the roses
of gentle bliss and sudden charm.
Their thorns cut deep into my heart
and yet I felt they meant no harm.

For how could beauty cause pain?
And how could sweetness turn sour?
And who would deem love a game?
And who could elude its strange power?

I smiled upon the dreams of past –
Mind-haunting memories of sorrow.
Eternal love which could not last
And promises so swiftly turned so hollow...
