A poem about the paranormal, mainly cryptozoology...
Modern Science never ceases to confound and amaze me
With its blind unacceptance of that which is unknown
Modern Scientists are content, for example,
To tell you that the Planet Earth is the only place in the universe
(Which is considered "infinite" or even ever-expanding at an exponential rate)
That is capable of housing life-forms.
The very idea that "alien" life has visited this planet seems right out of the question
After thousands of sightings
historical accounts
and even after Project Bluebook
Modern Scientists, at least the ones considered "respectable" or "credible"
Maintain the "I'll believe it when I see it" attitude.

Such is the way of Modern Science
And I suppose it is as it should be.
All this is not to say I personally believe in Grey Aliens, UFOs, or abductions
Not even the "I want to believe" philosophy suits me.
I'm simply content to keep the possibility open
I would express little surprise at an actual encounter
I've even fantacised about being abducted and taken off of this God-forsaken rock
(before we blow it up)
But before I start to digress
and lose focus
(which happens to me a lot)
Let us consider my favorite science
The field of Cryptozoology
The study of Cryptyds, creatures thought of as either extremely rare
-or non-existent.

I read much on the subject
And I prefer to take the stance that
unless you can prove to me that these creatures don't exist...
I will believe that they do.

You would call me crazy
If I were to say:

650 ft below the placid frigid waters of Loch Ness, there are prehistoric beasts swimming and snacking on sturgeon

or

The Yeti still traverses the snow-capped mountains of Tibet, while his cousin, the Sasquatch, hides in obscure wooded regions of America

or

El Chupacabras is still sucking goats in Puerto Rico

or

That Mokele-Mbembe stalks the Congo alongside a 100ft long Anaconda

But
If this were one-hundred years ago,
Science would have conditioned you to respond the same way
If I happened to mention the Mountain Gorilla of Africa
or
if I were to tell you that there were squid large enough to tangle with Sperm Whales
or
That the coelocanth is alive and well
(albeit in small numbers)

So you see
We simply don't know, for sure,
if these creatures exist
But I'd like to think that they do.

If only to stand up against the attitude of Modern Scientists and
PROVE THEM WRONG.
I think that I could die happy,
if I proved that Nessie was real or that there are, in fact, Sasquatch.
It would satisfy my personal view of reality, to laugh in the face of "respected" scientists, to retrieve these creatures from the world of myth and folklore
hand them a Latin name
tag 'em
and send them on their way
And suddenly
They're as real as me
As real as I want them to be...
