A poem about a path near the river where I used to live.
The path along the river winds to and fro
following its meanderings through the land
wandering inland at times to look around
lingering long enough to catch a glance
then descending down to the rivers edge again.

The winters snow crunching beneath my feet
the chill air wafting around my shoulders
snowflakes drifting lightly downward
the river flows steadily through the countryside
and I follow as best I can through the frigid winds.

The rivers ice floats along on the waters current
icy dreams which glide along towards the sea
I lose them in the distance after they coast by my side
constantly moving along the rivers course
their ultimate destination left to the whims of fate.

Night envelopes the landscape along the rivers path
settling down upon the world like a blanket
wrapping itself within the winds frosty breath
the crisp night full of stars shining brightly
the crescent moon a pleasant neighbor up above.

My mind roves across the rivers surface seeking reflections
the moons light dancing on the water like pixies in flight
fluttering through my psyche with boundless abandon
my soul opened bare to the worlds questioning look
my heart, once broken, healing in the colds wintry grip.

The wandering path follows the rivers mighty course
like the wandering of our souls through life
changing direction constantly along the lengthy trek
choices made in the dark of nights ebon grasp
effect the bridges that we cross on the river of life.
