Written in response to the memory of an ancient rectory visited in Cambridgeshire .
                                                        THE WITCH


                                      In a wild and desolate country house
                                      With oak and poplar strewn,
                                      Where bearded ghosts walk after dark
                                      Beneath a sapphire moon,

                                      An aged crone sits all alone
                                      Drinking her midnight tea;
                                      While the wind sighs in the cypress trees
                                      And yearns for the open sea.
