a sign of the times
The cameras lurk here, while
a checkpoint sits there,
Passwords and IDs abound.
"State your business!"
"What's your name?" and then,
"Can you prove it?"
A lack of private places
leads us to fearful accusations,
and the world turns hostile,
becoming cold, ignorant, and small.
Stop and hear! Can't you see?
Do you even care at all?
Global consolidation arrives,
laying bricks of suspect information, and
to security our precious freedoms will fall.
We'll all stand in our lines, charging cake on better times,
and deny that we are guilty, allowing
our fears to build unimaginable walls.
