feelings of motherhood
At the time you were known to me,
You opened my eyes so I could see.
Through the dark you became my light,
Through my heart you wound so tight.
At first it was flutters and then they grew,
To movements so steady I finally knew,
The time had come to see your face,
And to welcome you to this scary place.
The pain was so worth it you have to know
And for the rest of my life the love will show.

I imagined the day I would look into your eyes,
And will always do my best to soothe your cries.
You were so tiny, so small and so sweet,
As I counted your fingers and the toes on your feet,
Wrapping you so snugly to keep you warm as before,
I stare at your face and wonder what was in store.
From the first feeding to the first change,
It felt so right but also so strange.
The last day we were there I wrapped you up tight,
and welcomed you home for our first night.

A year has gone by and oh how you’ve changed
To talking and walking our life’s rearranged.
You’re thinking and learning; knowing more everyday,
Instead of 6 pounds it’s over twenty you weigh.
Sometimes I get anxious for the times that are to be
But the excitement is outweighing and I cannot wait to see.
I imagine you five years from now and even sometimes ten
It will always bring me back to the first day again.
So all throughout this life even when I go above,
You will always be my little boy, Always my life, always my love.
