A non-rhyming poem about 'Things of beauty'
What is beauty?

Full blossoms on a cherry tree
Drops of rain on a rosebud
A squirrel eating an acorn at your window
Old Glory flapping in the breeze

A baby cooing and laughing
The bell ringers at Christmas time
That sizzling steak upon your plate
Standing at the foot of Miss Liberty

Grandma kissing Grandpa
A baseball game at the family reunion
The whip cream and cherry on top of a milkshake
Your dog sitting beside you when you cry

A brownie a la mode with chocolate syrup on top
Walking on the beach at sunset with your lover
The curly Q ribbon on top of an unexpected gift
A boyscout carrying packages for the old lady

A whitetail deer drinking from a stream
The stars and moon on a clear night
A small boy and girl holding hands
A leafless tree covered with shining ice

A bride on her wedding day
The old town clock sweeping the minutes away
The blue lights of a squad car responding to your call
A little boy saluting a uniformed soldier

All these things, they make me smile
That’s why they are things of beauty
