Everybody has an addiction and they all handle it in their own way.
Addiction
By Stephen A Abell

Number Of Words: 305

You don’t understand what I go through; none of you do. I mean how could you?

A monster, that’s what you see when you look at me. Don’t lie, I’ve seen the look on your faces for long enough now to know fear and repulsion.

But, you really don’t understand.

Look at me; I’m shaking and that’s sweat rollin’ down my brow, and it’s not because there ain’t no air-con in here, either. You see, I have a need; a certain craving which has to be satiated so’s I can feel good again. Hell, forget good, I’ll be happy to feel just okay. An’ that’s only for a short while, because the damned hunger always comes back.

Out there on the streets, though, is a new score. I know. I’ve seen it. It promises such exquisite relief. I so want to taste it; devour it; revel in it. I just know I’ll be sorted for a good long time then.

I hope.

Damn this itch. No matter where I scratch, I can’t find the blessed thing.

Oh goody, now here comes the chills.

I wish I was strong enough to cold-turkey this mother. Though long ago, I was shown how weak I truly am. This addiction is my curse for my weakness.

Lucky for me, I’m a powerful person with powerful friends both in high and low places, so feeding my addiction is never a problem. I’ll send out a few of my lackeys to bring back my, sticky-licky, sweet treat.

“Mephistopheles, come hither.”

“Yes Lord Lucifer, what is your biding.”

“There’s a new child out there bearing the mark of Christ – do what you do best. Defile and corrupt the little bastard then rip his heart out and bring it back to me, so I can suck his soul dry.”

“As you command Master.”
